Report on IFLOWS 4.6

Known Issues--September 1998
  1. Operating System. IFLOWS 4.6 will run only under Windows 95 or Windows 98 operating systems. Only portions of IFLOWS 4.6 will run under Windows NT Workstation or Windows NT Server at this time.

  2. Comtrol Hostess Multiport Card. When using Comtrol Hostess 4 or 8 port serial boards IFLOWS 4.6 sometimes will have an initialization failure during start-up with the following errors recorded in Start Up Log file.

    1. Invalid handle for COMX, where X is the communication port number.

    2. E-Can’t attach ICX or RGX to COMX.

      One of two fixes can resolve these problems. The first fix is to shut down IFLOWS 4.6 and restart the computer using the DOS version of IFLOWS software. This will clear the COM ports, and allow you to restart using IFLOWS 4.6. This option is recommended only for experienced IFLOWS software operators, and will work only if the computer is using one multi-port serial board.

      The recommended fix is to replace the Comtrol Hostess board with a Comtrol Rocket Port board. At this time, the test system that has been running IFLOWS 4.6 with two Rocket Port boards has not experienced any problems with COM ports.

  3. Data Logging. IFLOWS 4.6 will not save incoming and outgoing data to a log file. This feature was provided in DOS IFLOWS software.

  4. Windows Fault Page During Shutdown. During shutdown of IFLOWS 4.6 a Windows Fault Page may occur. When this happens the current IFLOWS software must be deleted and reinstalled. The most likely cause of this problem is a corrupted executable file. More testing is needed to provide a better solution to the problem.

  5. Recommended Upgrades
    1. Allow ObsViewer software to access data over a local area network (LAN). This option would allow any computer connected to the LAN to view rainfall data.

    2. Add the ability to save incoming and outgoing data to a log file.
